About Us

Q. What do you grow?

A.
We grow perennials, herbs, Mediterraneans, succulents, California natives and landscape roses. Since our formation, in 1980, we have specialized in growing herbaceous perennials (soft wooded plants that live beyond one season). A few years later we added culinary herbs, and then landscape roses (used as an integral part of the landscape rather than rose garden specimens). Though the years we have added plants from Mediterranean climates and succulents.

Q.
Do you sell to the public?

A.
No, we do not sell to the public.

Q. Who do you sell to?

A.
We sell to retail garden centers, wholesale nurseries, plant brokers, contractors, and landscape professionals. Our customers also include Cities, Botanical Gardens/Arboretums, Golf Courses, and Theme Parks.

Q. Where are you located?

A.
Magic Growers is in the foothills of northeast Pasadena at 2795 Eaton Canyon Drive, Pasadena, Ca. 91107. Refer to the LA County Thomas Guide book on page 566 F1. Click on “Location and Directions” on the left side of this page to go to a map and driving directions.

Q. What are your phone and fax numbers?

A.
For sales and info the number is (626) 797-6511 (in Southern California call toll free at (800) 640-6244) and the fax is (626) 797-0633. For account/credit and other administratives services call (626) 797-5432 or fax to (626) 797-8969.

Q. What days are you closed?

A.

Q. Are you open when it rains?

A.
Under normal circumstances we will remain open on weekdays but will generally be closed on Saturdays.

Q. What size containers do you grow plants in?

A.
We produce plants in 4 inch pots, one, two and five gallon containers. (Gallon is a trade designated/accepted term.) We can grow plants in other sizes and special containers on a contracted or prearranged basis.

Q.
Do you grow any plants in flats, plug trays, 15 gallons or larger sizes?

A.
We do sell some ground cover items in flats. While we have lots of things in plug trays they are normally not for sale. However, if you have a job that calls for plugs or somethng larger than 5's lets talk about how we can produce them for you.

Q.
Will you grow a specific type and/or quantity of plants for an upcoming project? (Do you do contract growing?)

A.
Magic Growers has produced specific types, sizes, and quantities of plants for a variety of “contract grow” projects over the years. Many times we have grown material that is outside of our normal inventory and/or grown material in containers we would not generally produce inventory in. We are always interested in discussing this type of project with you.

Q. Do you have experience with "Green Roof" and "Green Wall" projects?

A.
Yes. We have produced many different green wall and roof projects and have experience with several systems and styles. You can see examples of the projects we grew at Descanso Gardens on the exterior walls of the Sturt Haaga Gallery and also on the roof of The LAIR (Living Amphibians Invertebrates Reptiles) exhibit at the Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens. Click on "Green Roofs and Walls" on the upper left of this page to learn more.(We only do the growing...we do not do the installation.)

Q. Do you deliver?

A.
We make deliveries with our own trucks throughout Southern California. We do require a minimum order size, and a delivery fee based on the destination is added. For customers located outside So. California orders can be delivered by common carrier, or picked up by customer’s truck.

Q.
Can I just come by and pick out my own plants?

A.
Members of the trade are always welcome to pick out their own plants.

Q.
If I pull my own plants is everything in the nursery for sale?

A.
The majority are always available but there are times when entire crops, small groups, or single plants or are not for sale. The reasons for this are; another client has already purchased them, we need that stock to propagate the next crop via cuttings, collecting seed or divisions. Also, items in plug trays in our propagation area are not for sale.

Q.  How do I know what is not for sale?

A.
Colored flags are used to mark "tied off" plants. Any thing between flags of the same color are off limits or a single plant will just have one flag in it. Please, do not take anything that is tied off. It is tempting but if you were the one that bought them for your job and there weren't enough or you can't buy them in the future because we didn't have enough to propagate from then you won't be happy and neither will we.

Q. Can I have you pull an order for me to pick up?

A.
You certainly can. Call, email, or fax your order to us. We just ask that you give us adequate time to properly pull your material. We generally require a minimum of 24 hours notice to prepare a will call order. Orders submitted for pick up and then cancelled will be charged a re-stocking fee.

Q.
What types of payment do you accept?

A.
We accept cash, checks and credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and AmEx) with proper identification.

Q.
I’m a contractor/designer; can I bring a client to Magic Growers to look at what you grow?

A.
Yes. We ask that you accompany them while they are here, that you advise them to wear close-toed shoes during their visit, and that no pets are allowed in the nursery.

Q.
My gardener/landscaper told me to go to Magic Growers to pick out the plants I want. Can I do that?

A.
You must be accompanied by the gardener/land-scaper. We are not staffed to provide the service and attention that you need and deserve. Because we do not sell to the public we can only accept payment from nursery or landscape professionals.

Q.
Do you have a salesperson that can come by my garden center or landscape job to show me samples?

A. Yes we do. Please call or send us an email with your contact information, the best day(s) and times to see you. We will have a salesperson arrange to stop by.

Q. Do you have an availability list you can email or fax to me?

A. Yes. However, they are only for use by retail nursery or landscape professionals. Our availability lists are updated weekly and they are posted on our website. (Click on "Availability" on the left side of this page to view our lists. A user name and password are required.) Our lists can also be emailed, or faxed.
